One of the two daughters of legendary actress Shobhna Samarth,Tanuja ( the other being Nutan) has been a popular Indian film actress in the 1960s & 1970s. Married to Shomu Mukherjee,son of movie veteran & studio owner Sashadhar Mukherjee,Tanjua is gifted with two daughters Kajol & Tanisha. A recipient of two Filmfare Awards, Tanuja is best known for her roles in the Hindi films like Memdidi (1961), Chand Aur Suraj (1965), Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi (1966), Jewel Thief (1967), Nai Roshni (1967), Jeene Ki Raah (1969), Haathi Mere Saathi (1971), Anubhav (1971), Mere Jeevan Saathi (1972) Do Chor (1972), Yaarana( 1981) & Prem Rog( 1982).

‘Baharen Phir Bhi Ayengi’, directed by Shaheed Latif, is said to be her best film. Her pairings & chemistry with Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra has been marvellous. Also featured in “Son of Sardar” (2012) starring Ajay Devgn Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Dutt . “A Death in the Gunj” (2016) directed by Konkona Sen Sharma was one of her few last films starring Kalki Koechlin, Om Puri and Gulshan Devaiah .
