Mother’s Day is celebrated the world over following an initiative taken by a woman named Anna Reese whose mother had passed away. She wanted to remember & honour her mother,a peace activist,in USA .to be declared as a recognised holiday. In India it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May whereas it is celebrated on different days in some other countires. The idea of celebrating Mother’s Day’ is to remember the role played by mothers in day-to-day life and their sacrifice in various fields. The phenomenon, however, symbolises the same spirit or message.
Th history is replete with endless examples to support and highlight the role of a mother.Marie Curie, the winner of two Noble Prize, must find a place as she also helped her elder daughter to become a Nobel laureate .We can also quote Mehboob Khan’s “Mother India”, as another example, where a mother ( Nargis ) kills her son ( Sunil Dutt) for reasons best known to all.We also can not forget Nirupa Roy in Yash Chopra’s super hit ” Deewar” where a fight between two brothers lead to a daialogue rendered by Shashi Kapoor “Mere Pass Maa Hai”, to make the film memorable in real sense. Sulochna also did many such roles in films including “Johny Mera Naam and” not the the last but least Lalita Pawar who played a loud mouth rustic woman enacting mother in many of Raj Kapoor films including “Parvarish ” & “Anari” with ingenuity & aplomb.I wish all my women friends who are mothers in real life & relative moms “A Warm & Happy Mother’s Day”.
