“In Praise of My Grandmother”

Spread the love

By Jagmohan Singh Barhok

My grandmother was the most revered lady in the whole family. She was known for her social work and for blessing people to succeed and achieve things that would have never been possible. Some of her blessings were unbelievable nay unimaginable & surprised many including doctors & scientists. She made the marriage of two of my dad’s uncles possible.

A cousin of my grandfather, who lived in Srinagar and whose wife held an administrative position in the court of Maharaja Hari Singh of Kashmir, had told me about her qualities when I visited them on 31st December in 1977. He also took me to the Srinagar Club on the eve of New Year 1978. My parents also visited them in 1978.

Our whole family (clan) lived in a village called Noorpur Sethi in Chakwal ( now in Pakistan). My grandmother was born in Bhaun in Chakwal. After partition all families from the place moved to East Punjab, Delhi, Calcutta and Dhanbad respectively. My father moved to Firozpur with his younger sister’s family. She Died on 3rd November 1991 following the unfortunate death of my father in June 1991.

“I Miss & Remember her a lot”. We should respect the spirit and memory of our loved ones.
