Guru Dutt, one of the finest directors of Hindi films -“Aaar Paar”, “Baaz”, “Baazi”, “Kagaz Ke Phool”, “Mr. & Mrs.’55” & “Pyasa” died this Day in 1964 in the prime of his life . His two films “Pyaasa” & “Kagaz Ke Phool” have been internationally acclaimed with “Pyaasa” finding a place in the “Time magazine’s All-Time 100 top films. The noted director also acted in hits like “C.I.D.”, “Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam”, “Chaudhvin Ka Chand”, “Kala Bazar”,”Bharosa”, “Jaal”, “Baaz” & “Baazi”. “Babuji Dheere Chalna” song was from his film “Aar Paar”. Born Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar, the celebrated director was married to singer Geeta Dutt who ruled the roost in 1950s.


Dutt started his film career with Dev Anand and both helped each other in the beginning. Director Atma Ram Padukone was his younger brother . He directed many films including Dev Anand, Sharmila Tagore starrer ‘Yeh Gulistan Hamara’.
