“Bina Rai- Remembered on Her Birth Anniversary”

Bina Rai featured in Hindi films of 1950s. She is rememered for her role in “Anarkali” (1953), directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal, starring Pradeep Kumar , Kuldip Kaur & Ruby Mayer. She plays Anarkali in the film.The film had some of the memorable songs like “Mohabbat Mein Aise Kadam, Zamana Yeh Samjha Ki Hum Pee Ke Aaye”, “Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai, Jo Kisi Ka Ho Gaya” , “Jaag Dard-E-Ishq Jaag, Dil Ko Bekarar Kar” & “Zindagi Pyar Ki Do Char Ghadi Hoti Hai” under the music score C. Ramchandra. I watched this movie as a child at Ferozpur in Punjab.


Rai married actor Prem Nath after the release of her maiden film in 1952. Premnath’s sister was married to Raj Kapoor. ” Ghunghar”(1960), “Taj Mahal” (1963) & “Daadi Maa” (1966) were her other films. Won Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in “Ghunghat”.

Born Krishna Sarin, at Lahore, Punjab on 13 July 1931.
