Padma Shri & Sahitya Akademi Award recipient, noted Punjabi Poet, Surjit Patar breathed his last on Saturday morning at his residence in Ludhiana. His wife tried to wake him up but he did not respond. He was later declared dead. Born in 1945, Patar brought glory and colors to Punjabi language through his work. He was an educationist, too. I met him during one of my visits to Bombay in 1990.
