Utpal Dutt was one of the well known Bengali actors who also worked in several Hindi films like -Julie, Shaukeen, Goal Maal & Guddi . He worked in ‘Bhuvan Shome’ (1969) to win National Award for Best Actor . The film also won Best Director & Best Feature Film Awards. Also won Filmfare Award for Best Comedian in ‘Gol Maal’ (1979 release) also starring Amol Palekar & Bindiya Goswami, ‘Naram Garam’ (1982) & ‘Rang Birangi’ (1984) including 3 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Awards for ‘Amanush'(1975) ‘Gol Maal'(1980) & ‘Saaheb’ (1986). He was an ardent theatre lover, too.

Michael Madhusudan (1950) was his maiden Bengali film. Saat Hindustani (1969), Bombay Talkie (1970) Mere Jeevan Saathi, Honeymoon (1973), Charitraheen (1974), Ram Balram (1980) & Barsaat Ki Ek Raat include some of his other Hindi films. Played various roles with confidence nay authority.
