On Her Birth Anniversary

Kunika Sadanand is an Indian actress who mostly appeared as a vamp or side heroine in films beginning her career with Kabrastan, Bandh Darwaza, Amavas Ki Raat . Most of her earlier films were sex-horror films. Her later film were a mix of social & action dramas like- “Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni”, “Aaj Ka Goonda Raj”, “Kaun Kare Kurbanie” & “Bewaffa Se Waffa” to mention some.

I was present on the sets of Sawan Kumar’s ‘Bewaffa Se Waffa’ starring Vivek Mushran,Juhi Chawla Naghma & Kunika. On the material date & time Vivek Mushran, Naghma & Kunika were present on the had lunch together & I later interviewed Kunika in her make- room. Her hair dresser was also present. The film’s story revolves round Aslam (Vivek Mushran) & Rukshar (Juhi Chawla). As Rukshar fails to conceive, she seeks her friend Naghma’s help persuading her to marry her husband. Many twists & turns follow.

Kunika also featured in several TV shows including ‘Swabhimaan’, ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’ & ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ (2000)to name few. Her brother visited us in late 1990s at Chandigarh in connection with shooting of a serial. I took him to a producer who had produced few Hindi films. My younger brother also met him during his visits to Mumbai later. She also toured many countries & was part of stage shows. She also appeared in a Punjabi film “Jihne Mera Dil Luteya” (2011) also featuring Gippy Grewal, Neeru Bajwa & B. N. Sharma.
