Rajiv Kapoor, the youngest son of late showman, was first seen in “Ek Jaan Hain Hum”(1983) starring Shammi Kapoor, Tanuja, Divya Rana, Rakesh Bedi & Gulshan Grover. “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” directed by Raj Kapoor featuring Mandakini & Rajiv, however, turned a gold mine as it created box office history in 1985.The film also featuring Divya Rana and Saeed Jaffrey, became controversial because of few bold scenes including the one showing the nubile actress in a see through saree. The film produced with a budget of nearly 1.45 crore fetched over 19 crores (440 crores at the current exchange rate). It also won Filmfare Awards in five categories including the Best Film & Best Music score by Ravindra Jain with “Sun Sahiba Sun, Pyaar Ki Dhun Maine Tujhe Chun Liya” rendered by Lata Mangeshkar. Hasrat Jaipuri penned the lyrics. This writer carried a review of the film in a leading English daily following which Raj Kapoor sent a letter of appreciation.

Lover Boy (1985), Zalzala & Hum To Chale Pardes (1988)were his other films as an actor.

Born 25 August 1962, Rajiv Kapoor acted in more than ten films and produced three -“Henna” (1991), “Prem Granth”(Director- 1996) & “Aa Ab Laut Chalen”( 1999). His love marriage to Aarti Sabharwal in 2001 could not last longer as they separated in 2003.
