Madhubala, born Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi on 14 February 1933 to Ataullah Khan, unarguably was the most liked, talked about & adored actress of the Hindi Cinema. She took to films as a child artist to supplement her family income & later rose to phenomenal heights in 1950s rubbing shoulders with the likes of Suraiya, Nutan, Vyjayanthimala & Meena Kumari.
Kamal Amrohi’s 1949 magnum opus “Mahal”( singing “Aaega aanewala aaega”), a suspense thriller dealing with incarnation, made her the most sought after actress, opening floodgates of opportunities for the budding actress. She was cast opposite Dilip Kumar in ” Tarana” & later in “Sangdil”( 1952) followed by Mehboob Khan’s “Amar” (1954) .
