With the success of some of the stunning Indian babes at various International Beauty Pageants beginning with Sushmita Sen & Aishwarya Rai, the Cannes, a city situated on the French Riviera, seems to have become a hub for aspiring Indian actresses & models. The Indian film contingent was the largest to attend the 76th Cannes Film Festival held this year comprising of Aishwarya Rai, Mouni Roy, Mrunal Thakur, Urvashi Rautela & many others to bewitch the viewers & delegates at the Cannes 2023 extravaganza. There are endless festivals ,balls, cocktail parties, beach binges & private carrousels which come to a climax at the height of the tourist season which begins at the end of spring just after the celebrated International Film Festival. Thus festival is the biggest, brashest & best known of the French Riviera’s many festivals. For almost two weeks the city looks like a massive studio. It becomes the focus of all & sundry related to motion picture industry worldwide.
Producers from all parts of the world alight on Cannes like cinerama moths to test their celluloid wings & show off their technicolors as they once did in Venice. Cannes, it may be mentioned appropriated the film festival gimmick in 1939 from Venice. where Mussolini ,a staunch film buff originated it two years earlier. Interestingly both these cities were then competing for European film prestige, and Venice was leading when suddenly the World War II broke out. After the resumption of the festival in 1946 ,Cannes took the lead which it has held ever since. The festival later acquired a reputation for vulgarity & rowdiness which seem to attract & entertain visitors more than the films themselves.
