Lyric, is a verse or poem that is, or supposedly, susceptible of being sung to the accompaniment of a musical instrument or that expresses intense personal emotions in a manner suggestive of a song. Songs, it would be conceded are the mind & soul of a film. Most people see movies because of soulful, touching and lively nay romantic numbers and melody. We can quote films like ” Dosti” -‘Chahoonga Mein Tujhe ‘, “Aashiqi” -‘Bas Ik Sanam Chahiye Aashiqi ke liye’, “Sasural”- ‘Teri Pyari Pyari Surat Ko’ & many other films we remember for their music and heart-touching songs . “Barsaat” was famous for its song ‘ Jiya Bekraar hai’, ‘Aar Paar” for hit number ‘Babujee dheere chalna’ & ” Howrah Bridge” , ‘Aiye Meharbaan’, & “Intaqam” for ‘Aa Jaane jaa’ to mention some. “
The Indian film industry has been gifted with many a renowned and talented lyricist like Shailendra, Neeraj, Jan Nisar Akhtar ,Pradeep, Sameer, Anjaan, Sahir Ludhianvi to mention some. Hasrat is another gem of a song writer to add to this list who enthralled the cine- goers with his soulful, heart-touching, and romantic songs throughout his career spanning almost five decades. As the name suggests, Hasrat belonged to Jaipur in Rajasthan and his penchant to become an artist took him to Bombay for greener pastures. He did odd jobs in the beginning and eventually got a job as a bus conductor. He worked for years and during this period, it is presumed, he met many women some of whom definitely inspired & aroused his passion ,acting as a catalyst thereby changing his philosophy of life & turning him into a prolific song writer in the years to follow. Raj Kapoor gave him an opportunity to write a few songs for his prestigious venture “Barsaat” starring Nargis ,Nimmi & Prem Nath. His song ” Jiya Beqarar Hai Chhai Bahar Hai,Aaja More Balma Tera Intezaar Hai’ and ‘Chodd gaye balam Mujhe Haye Akela Chod Gaye ” became super hit. He later became a permanent member of Raj Kapoor team comprising of shailendra, Mukesh & SJK.
‘Jiya Bekraar Hai’, ( Barsaat 1949), ‘Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padkar ( Sangam-1964), ‘Tum Mujhe Yun Bhula Na Paoge’ ( Pagla Kahin Ka-1970), ‘Wo Chand Khila Wo Taare Hase yeh Raat’ & ‘Ban Ke Panchhi Gaye Pyaar Ka Tarana’ ( Anari 1959 ), ‘Tumne Pukar Aur Hum Chale Aaye,Jaan Hatheli Par Le Aaye Re'( Rajkumar-1964), “O Mehbooba Mere Dil Ke Paas He hai Teri Manzil -e -Maqsood’ (Sangam-1964), ‘Tera Jalwa Jisne Dekha Woh Tera Ho Gaya, Main Ho Gai Kisi Ki Koi Mera Ho Gaya’ ( Ujala-1959) .
‘Jane Kahan Gaye Woh Din’, ( Mera Naam Joker-1970), ‘Chodd gaye balam Mujhe haye Akela Chodd Gaye'( Barsat-1949), ‘Baharo Phool Barsao Mera Mehboob Aaya Hai’ ( Suraj-1966) , ‘Zindagi Ik Safar Hai Suhana’, “Andaz” (1971 ‘Aaja Sanam Madhur Chandni Mein Hum’ & Panchhi Banoo Udti Phirun Mast Gagan Mein’ (Chori-Chori 1956) ‘Ichak Dana Beechak Dana ‘( Shri 420-1955 ) & ‘Ho maine Pyaar Kiya Oye Hoye Kya Julm Kiya’ “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai” (1960) are few other memorable gems penned by Hasrat.
Won Filmfare Award for “Suraj” in 1967 & ” Andaz” in 1972.
