In 1971 Raj Khosla released his film on dacoits titled “Mera Gaon Mera Desh” starring Dharmendra, Asha Parekh & Vinod Khanna. The film became super hit because of its two spicy & teasing songs picturised on a relatively smaller actress named Laxmi Chhaya. There is no denying the fact that “Maar Diya Jaye Ya Chhod Diya Jaye” did wonders on the the box office front.
The dancer Lakshmi Chhaya had earlier done a song ‘Jaan Pehchaan Ho’in NC Sippy’s murder-thriller ‘Gumnaam’.Interestingly both the films failed to do wonders for the actress Laxmi Chhaya. The actress appeared in few dozen films in smaller appearances or as a dancer though ‘Teesri Manzil’ (1966), ‘Duniya ‘(1968), ‘Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke’ (1969), Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), and ‘Raaste Kaa Patthar’ (1972) were some of her hits.
Born on 7 January 1948, she succumbed to cancer in 2004 at .The media did not give her importance she richly deserved as “Maar Diya Jaye” Girl. Died this Day in 2004.
