On His Birth Anniversary

Randhir Kapoor is eldest of the five children born to Raj Kapoor-three sons & two daughter. Of the three sons of late Raj Kapoor, who pursued acting, Rishi Kapoor was the most successful followed by his elder brother Randhir who shot into fame and recognition with “Rampur Ka Laxman” (1972) also starring Shatrughan Sinha & Rekha.

The actor later appeared in a few films like “Jawani Diwani”, “Haath Ki Safai” (1974) & “Ponga Pandit”.(1975). With the stars not favouring as he had expected, the actor turned to direction and also produced “Henna” (1991), Prem Granth (1996), “Aa Ab Laut Chalen” (1999). He directed “Kal Aaj Aur Kal” (1971) featuring three generations of the Kapoors. “Dharam Karam” (1975) & “Henna” (1991), showman’s dream project ,were other films he directed.

Chacha Bhatija (1977), Mama Bhanja (1977), Heeralal Pannalal (1978) , Biwi-O-Biwi , Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981), “Pukar”(1983) & Amitabh starrer “Kasme Vaade” (1978) were his other notable films. Towards the fag end of his life he appeared in “Housefull 2” (2012) & “Super Nani”(2014) also featuring Rekha.

The actor was married to actress Babita (‘Farz’,’Kismat’ & ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ fame actress) in 1971. The two have been living separately since 1980s. His both daughters Karishma & Kareena have been known actresses.
