‘Toofan Aur Deeya’ (1956) , directed by Prabhat Kumar and starring Satish Vyas, Rajendra Kumar , Ulhas & Nanda, the subject of this write up, was one of the earlier films I watched at the age of six at Ferozepur. I still remember the song ‘Nirbal Se Ladai Balvan Ki, Ye Kahani Hai Diye Ki Aur Tufaan Ki’ rendered by Manna Dey under the music score Vasant Desai.
‘Chhoti Bahen'(1959), a social drama highlighting brother-sister love and affection , directed by L.V. Prasad was a musical hit of the year with many soulful & foot tapping numbers like ‘Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana’ ,’Mai Rangila Pyar Kaa Rahee’ ,’O Kali Anaar Ki Na Itna Satao’ & ‘Jaoon Kahan Bata Aye Dil’ under the baton Shankar Jikishan.It received Filmfare Nominations in 5 categories. The film featuring Balraj Sahni, Shyama,Nanda, Mahmood, Rehman and Shubha Khote was one of the 10 highest-grossing films of the year along with “Dhool Ka Phool” also starring Nanda .

‘Bhabhi’, ‘Kala Bazar’, ‘Kanoon’,’Ittefaq’, ‘Gumnaam ‘ & ‘Shor’ are Nanda’s other noteable films. Unfortunately, the actress was not suitably rewarded or parted with recognition she truly deserved.
