Jagmohan Singh Barhok
On Her Birth Anniversary
Krishna Raj Kapoor, daghter of an Inspector General of Police,Madhya Pradesh, married Raj Kapoor in 1946 when she was barely 16 .Raj Kapoor was then struggling to find a way of life as his father Prithviraj Kapoor was a disciplinarian & gave prominence only to work, patriotism and traditional values.
Raj Kapoor shot into prominence with his directorial venture “Barsaat” (1949) featuring Nargis, Nimmi, Prem Nath. It turned out to be a blockbuster with many touchingly lovely songs to boast.
Krishna Kapoor saw him taste stardom & rise to phenomenal success both as an actor & director .She remained a witness to many of her husband’s affairs nay romantic escapades, watching the scenes from sidelines, never ever fidgeting. She bore all the pangs and sorrows to herself ,setting an example hitherto unheard in the film history as a woman truly beautiful inside out.
She held the family together. Proved herself a committed daughter-in-law, wife, mother & even grandmother. She attended Shashi Kapoor, too when he was debilitated & spent years on a wheel chair. Her love, generosity & dedication, it would be conceded, remained legendary for her family. She owned a bungalow which is still there.
Born at Rewa, Krishna Kapoor was blessed with 5 children- Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor, Reema Kapoor, Ritu Nanda. And grandchildren-Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, & Ranbir Kapoor all known actors while Riddhima Kapoor is a fashion desinger. Her father married thrice.
