Geeta Dutt was a well established singer before Mangeshkar sisters appeared on filmhorizon and rose to prominence. ‘Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol'(Jogan-1950)’Khayalon Mein Kisike’ (Bawre Nain – 1950) ‘Tadbir Se Bigdi Hui Taqdeer” (Baazi – 1951’, ‘Babuji Dheere Chalna'(Aar Paar-1954),’Na Yeh Chand Hoga'( Shart-1954)’Ae Dil Mujhe Bata De'( Bhai Bhai 1956) &’Hum Aap Ki Aankhon Mein’ ( Pyaasa – 1957) to mention some.

The singer who had done maximum hits with S.D. Burman and O.P. Nayyar was later sidelined and Asha Bhosle was made to sing the sensual club number ‘Aaiye Meharbaan, Baithiye Jaan E Jaan..’ from Ashok Kumar, Madhubala starrer “Howrah Bridge”(1958) by music director O.P.Nayyar. ‘Geeta Dutt rendered the other song ‘Meraa Naam Chin Chin Chu’ from the same film.

Geeta Dutt, married Guru Dutt, a well-known actor-director in 1953 amidst opposition & displeasure from family members. Although, the couple was gifted with three children, their mariied life was sans happiness for reasons many. Professionally, though Guru Dutt was a disciplinarian ,he otherwise was a non-compliant. Smoked & drank heavily. Geeta Dutt was also addicted to heavy drinking and excessive drinking caused her death when she was 41.
