V. Shantaram ,also called the doyen of Hindi films, was a prominent producer, director, screenwriter & actor. He is remembered for his 1946 release “Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani”, “Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje” (1955 ), “Do Aankhen Barah Haath” (1957) & “Navrang” (1959). He also acted in few films like “Parchhain” (1952), “Stree”(1961) & “Do Ankhen Barah Haath”. He owned Rajkamal Kalamandir & remained active for seven decades.

Bestowed with Filmfare Best Director Award for “Jhanak Jhank Payal Baaje” & National Award for “Do Aankhen Barah Haath” besides Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan.
Married Vimalabai, Jayshree(1941-1956) & Sandhya. V.Shantaram introduced his daughter Rajshree opposite Jeetendra in film “Geet Gaya Patharon Ne” (1964).

Born this Day in 1901 at Kolhapur.
