Balasaheb Thackeray born 23 Janury 1926, founded ‘Shiv Sena’. The phenomenon ‘Shiv’ derived from Chatrapati Shivaji, known Maratha warrior of his time. A staunch supporter of Hindutava & Marathi, Balasaheb played an important role in the Maharashtra politics. Matoshree ,his residence, remained centre of political hustle & bustle for years. He began his professional career as a cartoonist.

The man who had nerves of steel lead the party to unprecedented success. He refused to bow down before pressure.On the contrary, he made or reduced others to tame submission. He helped actor Sanjay Dutt out when Sunil Dutt approached him. His son Udhav Thackeray is the current CM of Maharashtra. Raj Thackeray is his nephew and Aaditya Thackeray, grandson.

Died this Day in 2012 in Mumbai.
