‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholders’ is an old saying. ‘A thing of beauty is a joy for ever’ goes another. We cannot ignore a beautiful thing .Be it a bunch of fragrant flowers at full bloom, a rose bud, red apples or luscious ripe mangoes. Aishwarya Rai, the subject of this write up, unarguably is gifted with both beauty & brains as is evident from her achievements, recognition & worldwide popularity .
Gifted with exotic charm & tremendous appeal, Aishwarya, who stands 5 foot 7, was chosen Miss India World 1994 .She later participated in the ‘Miss World’ pageant held in Sun City, South Africa on 19 Nov 1994. She was Crowned by the former Miss World ,Lisa Hanna of Jamaica A total of 87 contestants took part in the event under reference.
After returning to India, Aish took to modelling & films debuting with a a Tamil film “Iruvar” followed by Anil Kapoor starrer “Aur Pyar Ho Gaya”(1998). She was cast in romantic drama “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999) also featuring Salman Khan & Ajay Devgan to win her her first Filmfare Best Actress Award.
“Devdas” (2002) , “Umrao Jaan” & “Dhoom2” (2006(), Jodhaa Akbar (2008) “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” & “Sarbjit” (2016) are her other notable films.
Aish, winner of two Filmfare Awards, Padma Shri including ‘Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’ by the Government of France in 2012, established in 1957 to encourage people & artists who promoted or encouraged arts in France in general & around the world in particular.
Bestowed with titles like- “100 Most Beautiful Indian Women in the Past Century”,Femina & Verve “Most Powerful Indian Woman” to mention few. The actress, blessed with a daughter, is married to Abhishek bachchan ,son of mega star Amitabh Bachchan.
