Navneet Nishan,the plump looking cute starlet,a graduate in Acting,joined NSD to further add to her acting prowess.The star in the making went to Mumbai for greener pastures before long.She debuted in “Waaris” directed by Raveendra Peepat starring Raj Babbar,Smita patil & Amrish Puri.I covered the shooting of the film for a national monthly published from New Delhi.The interviews also appeared in ‘Screen’ published from Mumbai later.Drishti (1990),Jaan Tere Naam(1992)& Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (993) followed.In Harry Baweja’s “Dilwale” she played Jyoti Bhatia with a lovely song ‘Jeeta tha jiske liye,jiske liye marta tha’ picturised on Ajay Devgan.It was declared a successful films.She was later cast in Aamir Khan starrer “Raja Hindustani”(1996) as Kammo Singh opposite turban clad comedian Johnny Lewer .”Pardesi,Pardesi Jana Nahi, Mujhe Chhod Ke, Mujhe Chhod Ke’ & ‘”Aaye Ho Meri Zindagi Mein,Tum Bahar Ban Ke’ were hits.The critics praised Karisma Kapoor’s performance and it was declared a blockbuster by trade pundits.It was the fourth higest grossing film of 1990s after ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ ,’Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ & ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ .
Navneet Nishan had earlier proved her mettle in teleserial “Tara” aired on ZEE TV (1993).She was in the lead opposite Alok Nath. Ratna Pathak Shah, Neha Sharad and Amita Nangia were the other performers. She impressed the small screen viewers again with her performance in “Kasautii Zindagii Kay” (2001), featuring Cezzane Khan, Shweta Tiwari ,Urvashi Dholakia, Hiten Tejwani , Ronit Roy, & many others. It was a Star Plus extravaganza. She was also part of “Andaaz” ( 1994-1999) with Kumar Sanu sin ging all the songs under the music score of Himesh Reshammiya .It had an impressive cast including many veterans like-Prem Chopra, Rajendra Kumar, Poonam Dhillon & Kulbhushan Kharbanda besides the main cast – Cezzane Khan, Shweta Tiwari, Urvashi Dholakia, Hiten Tejwani &, Ronit Roy. She also worked in the TV serial “Chanakya” playing Shonotra. I met Navneet Nishan , Shikha Swaroop & Shekhar Suman on the sets of “Andaaz” in 1995 & interviewed them at length.
Navneet also starred in many Punjabi films like-” Jee Aayan Nu”,” Asa Nu Maan Watna Da” (2004) starring Harbhajan Mann “Mera Pind”(2008)& “Ik Kudi Punjab Di” all directed by Manmohan Singh.”Ardab Mutiyaran” ( 2019) was her latest.
She shot into limelight when she accused Alok Nath of harrassment following the “Me,Too” campaign supporting writer-producer Vinta Nanda who alleged accused Alok Nath of molesting her. Navneet Nishan supported her & came out with her story of harrassment by the veteran actor.”Why the accusation came many years after the incident” asked Ashita Dhawan,another co-star of Alok nath.However,it sparked off a whole series of events.
Navneet, who spent most part of his childhood at Chandigarh & Patiala, was born this Day in 1965.
