With a tomboy image, Tanuja, the younger daughter of actress Shobhna Samarth , sister of talented Nutan & mother of Kajol, Tanuja played a long inning as an actress. She was outspoken and mod in her looks and attitude.Tanuja was friendly with Dharmendra and his wife. They worked together in ‘Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi’ 1966 ,’Izzat’ 1968, ‘Do Chor’ 1972 .She also did many films with Jeetendra like ‘Jeene Ki Raah’ 1969, Swarag Narak 1978, ‘Jaal’ & ‘Suhaagan’ 1986 .Tanuja started her film career in late 1950s. I had seen one of her earlier films in New Delhi “Hamari Yaad Aayegi (1961) with two popular songs-“Kabhi Tanhaiyon Mein Yoon Hamari Yaad Aayegi” rendered by Mubarak Begum & the other “”Farishton Ki Nagari Mein Main ,Aa Gaya Hoon Main” in the voice of Mukesh. “Baharein Phir Bhi Aayengi” was produced by Guru Dutt starring Mala Sinha, Dharmendra & Tanuja. The film had few good songs like-“Badal Jaye Agar Mali” & “Aapke Haseen Rukh Pe” sung by Mahendra Kapoor & Rafi respectively. She also made her presence felt in “Jewel Thief”. “Chand Aur Suraj”,Benazeer”,”Mere Jeean Saathi’,”Mom Ki Gudiya” “Anubhav”, “Swarag Narak”, “Hamrahi” “Amir Garib” & “Rakhwala” to mention some. “Shonar Pahar” (2018) was her latest Bengali film .

Married to producer & Studio owner Sashadhar Mukherjee’s son & actor Joy Mukherjees’s brother Shomu Mukherjee.Blessed with Kajol & Tanishaa two daughters. Bestowed with Lifetime Achievement Award , the actress was born this day in 1943.
