The Scottish actor, Sir Sean Connery enjoys the distinctio of portraying the first ever James Bond in “Dr. No” (1962) starring- the sensuous actress ursula Andress in the lead, supported by Joseph Wiseman, Zena Marshall, Eunice Gayson, Jack Lord, Bernard Lee & John Kitzmiller. Directd by Terence Young, the film had Photography by Ted Moore.The film was shot on a secluded Iceland. Ursula Andress plays Honey Ryder while the character Dr.No is portrayed by Joseph Wiseman .
The highlight scene of the film is when saucy nay voluptuously endowed Urula Andress walks towards James Bond in a two-piece-bikini swaying her hips with a knife stuck into her back on a secluded beach .It turned out to be blockbuster, 59-years ago, collecting $59 millions against production cost of $1.1 million.Sean Connery later worked in six more Bond films- ‘From Russia with Love’ (1963) , ‘Goldfinger’ (1964), ‘Thunderball’ (1965), ‘You Only Live Twice’ (1967), ‘Diamonds are Forever’ (1971) & 1983 release ‘Never say never again’.
Sean was voted by People magazine as the “Sexiest Man Alive” actor in 1989 and the “Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999.Bestowed with Two Golden Globe, Cecil B.DeMille Award, and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in “The Untouchables”(1987).Also won British Academy Film Award for ” The Name of the Rose” in the same year.
The legendary actor died while in his sleep on 31 October 2020, then aged 90, at his home in The Bahamas. Born this Day in 1930.
