There is no denying the fact that Anushka Shetty enjoys a superstar status down South. She has won three Filmfare Awards including the one for her portrayal of a prostitute in ” Vedam” directed by krish , her second consecutive Best Actress Award after “Dark Fantasy Arundhati” in 2009.
“Rudhramadevi” (2015 )a Telugu-language 3D biographical period action film based on the life of Rudrama Devi, who was also a prominent ruler in the Deccan, was another of her worth mentionable movie. Rudrama Devi is distinguished as one of the few ruling queens who developed a manly image. Written and directed by Gunasekhar, it features Anushka Shetty in the lead as Rudramadevi, alongside an ensemble cast of Allu Arjun, Rana Daggubati, Krishnam Raju, Prakash Raj, Suman, Nithya Menon, Baba Sehgal and Catherine .Produced with a budget of 80 crore,the film saw an envious opening week collection of 32 crore in India.It was released worldwide on 9 October 2015, with dubbed versions in Hindi and Malayalam languages. The film won many awards including the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Anushka Shetty for her performance. She also won Ugadi and Apsara Awards(2016),too.
She played Devasena in “Bahubali: The Begining” ( 2015) and “Baahubali 2:The Conclusion” (2017) starring prabhas,Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishna & Rana Daggubati, the film grossing over 1800 crores against a budget of 250 crore doing wonders on the box office creating new records. Another of her recent releases was “Nishabdham” (meaning silence) featuring Madhvan, Anushka Shetty and Anjali. Directed by Hemant Madhukar ,the film was released through Amazon Prime Video on 2 October 2020. Anushka Shetty played Rani Laxmi Bai in a a cameo appearance in “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy”( 2019).
There were speculations of her rumoured affair & marriage with co-star Prabhas when there photographs from an old film “Mirchi” went viral.The actress,however, was quick to clarify her position saying they were good friends for long. “Mirchi” was the highest grossing film of 2013 fetching 80 crores.It was also director Koratala Silva’s debut film.The story of the film revoles round two people in love.Later it transpires that the boy belonged to rival group.The film,howevr,ends with a happy note with Jai( Prabhas) reuniting his ‘heart-throb’ Vennela,played by Anushka Shetty.
The 40-year-old Anushka is tall ,friendly & lovely to look at.Born to Vittal & Prafulla Shetty,the actress is fond of chicken dishes; her favourite destination is London and favourite stars include Akkineni Nagarjuna & Mahesh Babu.Her hobbies include Yoga, travelling & gardening.
