The announcement for the 93rd Academy awards was made on April 25, 2021. Anthony Hopkins,,aged 83,winner of two Academy Awards & four BAFTAs, won the Best Actor award for his role in “The Father”,while,the Best Actress honour went to the winning film
“Nomadland”,actress Frances McDormand with Chlao Zhao,the first Asian-American woman, & the second in the history of Oscars to be bestowed with the Best Director honour.In 2009,Kathryn Bigelow created history when she won an award for Excellence in Cinematic Direction for “The Hurt Locker” ( 2008), an American war thriller. Minari’s Youn Yuh-jung won Best supporting Actress honour, while Daniel Kaluuya,was declared Best Supporting Actor winner. Emerald Fennell, best original screenplay. Chadwick Boseman supporters were not happy with the announcement of Hopkins win. Indian actor Irrfan Khan was honoured in the ‘in memorium’ segment’
