Jaya Bhaduri ‘the girl next door’ , who graced the screen for over three decades portraying different shades awe inspiringly in films,,made her film debut as a teenager in Satyajit Ray’s “Mahanagar” in 1963. Tarachand Barjatya,the noted moviemaker, saw the loveliness personified budding beauty and offered her a role in ” Uphaar”. Hrishikesh Mukherjee introducer her to Amitabh bachchan and after a few years of understanding they tied the knot in 1973. Jaya Bhaduri’s dignity and peerless elegance coupled with her acting prowess touched heights under the direction of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s (Guddi,Bawarchi,Anhimaan,Chupke Chupke & Milli.Gulzar also made her excel as an actress of class in “Parichay” & “Koshish” ( 1972 )) both exceptionally touching & thought provoking films.”Koshish” revolves round a deaf and dumb couple played by Sanjeeve Kumar & Jaya Bhaduri and their subsequent perseverance in life.Jaya Bhaduri enjoyed a special rapport with Sanjeeve Kumar as she enacted the role of his daughter in ” parichay” & daughter-in-law in Ramesh Sippy’s magnum opus “Sholay”( 1975).In Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s “Guddi” she was infatuated to or heads over heels in love with Dharmendra. She was awe inspringly lovely in the role of a teenager.She played a restrained widow in “Sholay”.In “Milli” ,another masterpiece by Mukherjee, she plays a cheerful girl who is a victim of an incurable disease.A drunkard, played by Amitabh Bachchan,who lives in the neighbourhood falls in love with her .Bachchan’s angry demeanourwas classy.

Anil Gangul’s ” Kora Kagaz” also ranks amongst her best films featuring noteable director Vijay Anand ( Guide,Teesri Manzil,Jewel Thief & Johny Mera Naam fame)in the lead.The couple is separated because of his mother-in-law’s interference who always boasts of her riches & wealth .They unite in the end after long separation with a touching dialogue to end the film “Kya sara qasoor mera Tha? Nahin,thoda mera thoda tumhara”.

It would be injustice if we did not mention Prakash Mehra’s “Zanzeer” ( 1973) the film which brought them closer & Yash Chopra’s ” Silsila” that nearly drifted them apart.Thanks to jaya Bachchan’s persevarence to be able to steer through turbulent waters,and so successfully too.Her other notable films include the likes of- “Shor”, ” Nauker” ,”Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” & “Kal Ho Naa Ho”.

Blessed with two children Shweta Bachchan Nanda & Abhishek Bahchan,the latter married to former Miss World 2000 Aishwarya Roy Bachchan, also an actress in her own right.Jaya bachan is bestowed with Padam Shri & 9 Filmfare Awards for her meritorious career in films including 3 Best Actress & 3 Best Supporting Actress Awards. Born this day in 1948 at Jabalpur to Tarun Bhaduri and Indira Bhaduri,Jaya bachchan is also an Indian politician and a member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party, notably serving four terms since 2004.She is known for being agrresively vocal during discussions in Rajya Sabha.
